No-Fi Soul Rebellion a man/wife band poised and capable of delivering a full-fledged dance party of epic proportions wherever they strike. Front man and sole songwriter Mark Heimer writes insanely catchy pop songs, snagging influences from rock, punk and soul and Oldies for music that does more than offer hooks galore and ample sing/scream-alongs— it makes you want to hear it again.

What people are saying about NFSR:

“I don’t know much about this other than I like it very much.”
– The late, great John Peel

“Mark is the white Prince.”
– Chris Henry

“It’s so inventive, and so gloriously independent. I just don’t get how this isn’t rotated on every motherfucking radio station from here to Helsinki.”
– The Duke, upon hearing NFSR’s newest release, Lambs to the Slaughter

No-Fi Soul Rebellion was conceived by Mark Heimer while living in Alaska in 2001. Frustrated by tension in the band he was in, Heimer decided to write and record music for his own band. He alleviated any and all middlemen by playing and recording every instrument (bass, guitar, drums, keyboards, and vocals) himself. Opting to go sans band for the performance front, Heimer now performs his music with his wife, Andrea Heimer. The Heimers maximize their performance aspects live, turning the lack of other band members to an advantageous situation. Andrea wields a few backing tracks housed in the Soul System and sings backup while Mark lets his thunderous spirit of performance loose on the audience with wild vocal performances, screaming bass solos and a fifty-foot mic cord that allows him to make contact with each audience member. The resulting chaos is fun, barrier breaking and sounds killer.

What people are saying about NFSR’s performances:

“If the usual performer cajoling for crowd participation exerts only a mild laxative effect on audience inhibitions, Heimer is like a bucket of prunes and a ramrod. If you don’t have a dancin’, singin’ or prayin’ bone in your body, a No-Fi show will make you wish you did.”
– Former Independent music editor, Andy Smetanka

“I'll bet my belief in Martha Stewart's innocence that it was the greatest performance of the two-night festival. Brilliant. Stunningly, originally, brilliant.”
– MusicFest NW show reviewer, Chica Lishis

“Holy shit, that was the best show I’ve ever seen!”
– A sweaty audience member

Let’s get a few things straight:

No-Fi Soul Rebellion is: Mark and Andrea Heimer. They were married two years ago on the way to an NFSR show.
No-Fi Soul Rebellion is not: Karaoke or funk. Give me a break. Woefully inaccurate on both accounts.
No-Fi Soul Rebellion is: A band. Those who review or write about NFSR should not get hung up on the fact that NFSR’s music is primarily the work of one man. This is not a new concept. NFSR records music in the exact manner as any other band- in a studio, with regular instruments, followed by production work etc.
No-Fi Soul Rebellion is not: Lo-fi music. For some reason the band name confuses this, but a huge amount of effort and emphasis is put into the production phase of recording NFSR.
No-Fi Soul Rebellion is: From Alaska but now resides in Bellingham, Washington.
No-Fi Soul Rebellion is not: A shtick or gimmick. It is a band that found a new means to deliver its live show.
No-Fi Soul Rebellion is: Influenced by Prince, Beck, The Make Up, Nation of Ulysses, David Bowie, Temptations, Four Tops, Wu-Tang Clan, Jay-Z, The Sweet, The Clash, Dead Milkmen, the Pixies, Grandmaster Flash and the Furious 5, Rolling Stones and many more.
No-Fi Soul Rebellion is not: A band that favors performance over musicianship or visa versa. Heimer puts painstaking detail and copious amounts of stress, heart and soul into each and every song to ensure they are as serious and meaningful as they are fun to perform live.
No-Fi Soul Rebellion is: Serious about their work. NFSR is not attempting to be ironic or goofy during their performance. They strive to deliver their music in a fun way, even though the subject matter of the songs is hardly laughable.
